In Memory: Dr. Alan D. Bennett
(1927–2010)

URJ President Rabbi Eric H. Yoffie has described the inspirational teacher, author, and leader Dr. Alan D. Bennett as “one of our Movement’s finest educators.” He helped to found the National Association of Temple Educators (NATE), and served as education director at Anshe Chesed Fairmount Temple in Cleveland from 1967 to 1978, and then became executive vice president of the city’s Jewish Bureau of Education. With Florence, his wife of 62 years, this aficionado of traveling, gardening, and bird watching helped to build the Neot Kedumim Biblical Landscape Reserve in Israel, which recreates the flora and fauna mentioned in the Bible. He also authored numerous articles and study guides, including those for Keeping Posted and Reform Judaism magazines.

May his memory be a blessing.
