Rabbi Lawrence “Jake” Jackofsky was the founding director of the Union’s Greene Family Camp in Bruceville, Texas and served for 27 years as the Union’s Southwest Council regional director. He loved to quote Abraham Joshua Heschel, to collect model cars—and to be with people. As Rabbi Richard Address said in his eulogy, "Jake would go, at a moment’s notice, to the smallest of congregations in his region to do a wedding, bar mitzvah, or funeral. When I asked, ‘Is there no one else who can do that?’ he’d answer, ‘These are my friends. They need me.’ He knew what it meant to serve a community."
